At the age of 17 he was led to doubt the truth of Christianity by reading Gibbon’s history. One of these was his great devotion to the heathen cause in religion, which was shown by his refusal to draw his salary, after having spent but one year in India, on the ground that he would have more influence among the heathen if he were not possessed of a stated income. Making certain that what impedes us can empower us. ![]() So that setbacks or problems are always expected and never permanent. To act with “a reverse clause,” so there is always a way out or another route to get to where you need to go. What does this phrase mean? Well, in Marcus’s words is the secret to an art known as turning obstacles upside down. As Marcus Aurelius put it nearly 2000 years ago: “The impediment to action advances action. In this way, “The Obstacle Is the Way” limited edition print I’m producing is a reminder of the timeless wisdom that you can turn every obstacle into an opportunity, every trial into a triumph. The form doesn’t matter-it can be a coin that reminds you of your mortality that you carry with you, it can be a quote taped on your screen, it can be a bust on your desk, or it can be a print above your working space. So you cannot run away from it, so you see it enough times that it becomes imprinted in your mind. I am a big proponent of turning good advice and wisdom into a tangible physical object. ![]() 6/24/2023 0 Comments Friends and Foes by Sarah M. One sweltering summer, my mother, in what can now be easily identified as a desperate ploy to keep her five children occupied for a few hours during the never-ending summer break, implemented a summer writing challenge. That’s something that’s hard to shrug off and let go of. You come up in a family, in a household, and you go to school, and you’re taught in those environments how to be male, how to be masculine, how to be a boy. ![]() I think of childhood and boyhood as almost like a training ground for what it means to occupy your identity categories. Moss Turpan: Many of the protagonists in these stories are boys on the cusp of some sort of maturity, and most of the adult protagonists we encounter are preoccupied with their boyhoods, dealing with or examining experiences from that time in their lives. ![]() 6/22/2023 0 Comments Ryuko 1 by Eldo Yoshimizu![]() finds just the right balance between explosions, fights, and quiet moments of exposition" - Barnes & Noble SciFi Blog "A real treat for lovers of hard-boiled seinen manga. Are there signs of imminent, major changes that can be observed? How well can we model past history of global change? Such knowledge is fundamental in order to predict how dramatic future change could be, and where it may take us in terms of changing climate zones, change of sea-level and the impact on marine and terrestrial life. And therefore provides a context in which to monitor and understand the importance of ongoing changes as we see them unfold on annual to human time scale. Research on deep-sea drill cores tells a story of profound climate and environmental change of the past that helps us to better understand the nature, mechanisms and driving forces behind such changes. Increasing population and use of resources and energy has made global environment and climate change one of the major challenges posed by the 21st century. Why Does Scientific Ocean Drilling Matter To You? Here’s the story, you have to read it to believe it: I am a geologist & I love the idea of drilling a well to the mantle, but selling it on the idea that it is some how related to climate change is COMPLETELY INSANE !! You have to see this version of climate insanity – using climate alarmism to justify drilling BILLION dollar well to the mantle. ![]() |
